President's Report
Chris Rushton
The past year at
Moncton Headstart has been an exciting year with improvements to our
quality programs and great optimism for the future. Funding has been
restored and now we can focus our attention on operations and expansion.
The provincial government provided increased funding as part of their
“Charter for Change” and the community has continued its generous
support. We are very appreciative of the generous support that we
receive from all levels of government, our community and supporting
organizations.
Because of the
additional classroom and staff, we will need more space. Our offices
are extremely cramped so we are planning a small expansion to increase
the office space and provide safer exiting as required by the National
Building Code.
The additional funding
will also have a research component. We haven’t had sufficient funds to
budget for research so this is an exciting opportunity to study the
success of the Moncton Headstart programs, applaud what we do well and
make changes as deemed necessary.
I am exceptionally
proud of the work that the staff at Moncton Headstart has provided,
given that we have struggled to provide adequate funding to the
programs. With the additional support, we are now able to recognize
their great work by enhancing salaries and benefit options and adding
necessary resources.
The parents and
children at Moncton Headstart face enormous challenges every day and
live without many of the benefits that we take for granted. The
continued support from all levels of government, our community and
supporting organizations is absolutely vital in Moncton Headstart
helping these families improve their lives. We are humbled by the
excellent support that we receive and look forward to new challenges and
opportunities.
