Every child deserves a fair start. Not every child gets one.

The research is clear: the earliest years of life are the most formative. What happens or doesn’t happen before a child turns six shapes their brain development, their ability to learn, their relationships, and their long-term health. Early childhood intervention works. It improves school readiness, supports positive behaviour, strengthens families, and reduces the risk of outcomes that follow children into adulthood.

At Moncton Headstart, we see this every day. We work with children and families facing real challenges; poverty, isolation, trauma, and the weight of circumstances they didn’t choose. What we also see, consistently, is what becomes possible when families get the right support at the right time.

Strong, responsive parenting is one of the most powerful protective factors in a child’s life. When parents are supported, not judged, they become more confident, more connected to their children, and better equipped to buffer their kids against adversity. That’s not just good for families. It’s good for all of us.
