History

Moncton Headstart was founded in 1974 by the late Claudette Bradshaw, who began by offering free daycare to a small group of economically disadvantaged children in greater Moncton, with the goal of preparing them for school.

A review of that early Children’s Program identified a need to strengthen the whole family environment welcoming younger children and involving parents directly. The Parents’ Program launched alongside it, offering a safe, supportive space where parents could build knowledge and develop parenting skills to benefit their children and the whole family.

More than fifty years later, that two-generation approach supporting children and parents together, remains at the heart of everything we do.
